DTN COMMENTS: Yet another very slow start to the day in feeder cattle
country, but we expect that packer inquiry will improve as the day
progresses. So far, no bids or asking prices have been renewed this
morning. Yesterday a few asking prices were noted late in the day in
parts of the South at $244, and a handful of bids were noted in Nebraska
at $375. If the trend of the last several weeks holds, significant trade
volume may be delayed until sometime tomorrow. Beef cutouts are expected
to be higher with light to moderate box movement.
For the period of February 20th to February 26th, net beef sales of
11,200 MT for 2026 were down 14 percent from the previous week and 29
percent from the prior 4-week average. Increases were primarily for Japan
(3,300 MT), South Korea (2,300 MT), Mexico (1,700 MT), Taiwan (1,400 MT),
and Hong Kong (700 MT). Exports of 14,900 MT were up 12 percent from the
previous week and 16 percent from the prior 4-week average. The
destinations were primarily to South Korea (5,000 MT), Japan (3,700 MT),
Mexico (1,500 MT), Hong Kong (1,400 MT), and Taiwan (1,200 MT).
NOTE: Feedlots are encouraged to call DTN with any cattle sales, at
1-402-461-3561. All sales will be listed anonymously and organized by
state. All live sales are FOB and set for 1-9-day delivery. A weekly
summary from this data will be posted on the Weekly Cattle Sales Reported
to DTN page and will be left up for the entire week for reference
purposes.
