DTN COMMENTS:  A light trade has developed in the major feeding states, 
with Southern live deals marked at $233, roughly steady with last week's 
weighted average, basis Kansas. Dressed sales in the North are being done 
at $365, also steady with last week's weighted average basis Nebraska.

Today's slaughter totaled 92,000 head, 6,000 more than last week, but 
22,000 less than a year ago. Saturday's kill is estimated at 1,000 head, 
bringing the weekly total to 562,000 head, 9,000 greater than the prior 
week, but 39,000 below 2025. Cattle futures closed sharply to 
significantly lower on both live (off 297 to 445) and feeder (off 650 to 
810) contracts. Beef cutouts are expected to close higher with light to 
moderate box movement.
